Frequently Asked Questions
How long do car batteries last?
The average lead-acid car battery lasts around three to five years. The different sizes and specifications of batteries cause this to vary; climate and weather conditions, driving habits, and more can also have impacts. Get your battery tested twice per year to ensure it has life left. Lithium-ion EV batteries, though, should last upwards of 10 years if cared for properly.
What are the signs my car needs a new battery?
In general, the main sign that your car needs a new battery is that your headlights flicker as the engine idles. If you're comfortable looking around your car's engine bay, then check for corrosion (it will appear as a buildup of bluish-white powder) and bulges on the battery – either of those very distinct symptoms will indicate that a GMC battery replacement is needed.
How often should I have my battery tested?
Ideally, you should have your car's battery tested twice per year. This is because a lead-acid battery is much different from the lithium-ion types you see in your phone and EV cars – it can't be measured with the typical "__-percent charge" specification and instead must be manually tested. If it is facing low-charge-holding issues, you likely won't know until symptoms appear.
Does extreme hot or cold weather affect my car's battery?
Yes, extremely hot or cold weather can negatively affect your car's battery. Cold weather can noticeably decrease the battery's ability to hold a charge; the same thing happens in hot weather, but the specific chemical process is different. The best workaround is to have either a climate-controlled garage at home or work or to get more frequent battery change services.
Can I replace my Buick or GMC battery myself?
Only trained individuals who know their way around a car's engine bay should attempt a GMC or Buick battery replacement by themselves. Working with a GMC Terrain battery (or any other lead-acid car battery) can cause severe harm to you and your vehicle if things are done improperly. Leave mechanical car services to those who know how to do it with precision.

BATTERY FAQs
Signs of wear may include slow engine cranking, weak or dim lights, or an illuminated dashboard warning light.
Batteries wear out over time, but there are also issues that can impact battery failure. For example, infrequent start-ups, discharged batteries freezing at 32 degrees Fahrenheit, hot temperatures and improperly connected accessories.
The best thing that you can do is have your DeVoe Buick GMC Certified Service technician perform a conductance test on your battery when you get your oil changed. This helps to monitor the status of the battery and helps prevent you from being in a situation where your vehicle won’t start.
